New Year, New Window Styles and Destin Home Trends

January 11, 2017

The beginning of the new year is a great time to revamp your home design and window treatments with the new styles of 2017. From painting your family room, to buying new window treatments or swapping out furnishings, we have tips on what’s in vogue in 2017 for interior design and window treatment trends in Destin.

Dusky Tones & Pastels

Both pastels and dusky tones are seeing more use while clear, bright colors are trending downward. Shades of gray, blue and green are extremely popular as are dusty hues of pink, blue, and yellow. Many shades on the spectrum are suggestive of nature from deep blue to “Greenery”, Pantone’s color of the year. Neutrals are still found throughout the color palette with whites, grays and darker browns balancing out the other shades.

Painting most of your walls in a neutral color and then adding in flashes of color through feature walls, accessories, and small furnishings might be one of the easiest methods to revamp the color in your home. Then it’s a breeze to have the latest colors in your home today and change the little things out when color trends vary after some time. When considering new window treatments, choose ones in neutral tones like Polywood® plantation shutters in white or a wood-like stain. These will go beautifully with any style or color palette and can stay in place if you switch room colors down the line.

Textures

Natural textures aren’t going anywhere this year. Fibers trending up include weaved material in rugs or baskets, natural or reclaimed wood, and twine. You’ll see these textures showing up in new places including on headboards, furniture, and pieces of art. Breathe new life into an old belonging with a small project like wrapping a frame in twine or creating artwork from old wood.

Incorporating texture into your design through window treatments add another degree of interest to your décor. Reclaimed wood shutters are constructed from aged, natural wood that was once part of fences or structures. The wood has unique knots and grain lines that bring an all-natural quality to any house. Other window treatments that add texture are Ovation® wood shutters or natural woven shades.

Metals

Furniture, hardware, and accessories that incorporate different metals are becoming popular across Destin. Wrought iron, brass, and nickel are especially popular currently. You can add metals to your décor by adding industrial, rustic, and/or retro pieces such as stools, chairs, or lamps that are built from metals. Also, don’t hesitate to utilize nickel or brass in your sinks or cabinetry for a more contemporary aesthetic.

Sliding barn doors and barn door shutters are a great way to bring in some metals and add an industrial or homespun look to your house. Barn doors are constructed from solid wood and have a variety of hardware to choose from such as wheels, sliding tracks, and pull handles made from different metals.
